Born in 1968 in Katowice, Poland, conductor Dariusz Wisniewski studied piano, trumpet, horn double bass and conducting. Graduated with distinction from Liceum Muzyczne in Katowice. After two years studies at the Warsaw Academy of Music Mr. Wisniewski won an international competition and was accepted by Sheldon Morgenstern to attend the Eastern Music Festival.
During stay in Greensboro, N.C., USA, he was awarded full tuition by Prof. Ezra Laderman, the Dean of Yale School of Music to study at Yale University, graduating with an average grade of 3.96 (out of 4.00) and Masters Degree. Next three years followed of teaching chamber music, double bass and sound engineering during doctoral studies at State University of New York in Stony Brook with Prof. Julius Levine, director of chamber music departments at Marlboro and Tanglewood Festivals. While coming to the US, Mr. Wisniewski was granted scholarships from nearly all Polish foundations in the US, including the Kosciuszko Foundation and a private scholarship from Mrs. Barbara Piasecka-Johnson.
Returning to Europe to gain more experience in opera and orchestral repertoire Mr. Wisniewski performed as an instrumentalist with well-known orchestras (including Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Philharmonia Orchestra) and many world-class soloists. Upon graduating from the Liege Royal Conservatoire in Belgium, Mr. Wisniewski completed his US Doctoral Degree in 1999.
Encouraged by Prof. Jorma Panula, Mr. Wisniewski concentrated on conducting again, leading orchestras in Germany, Hungary, Belgium, United States, Poland and Luxemburg. Last years brought engagements and recordings with top Polish orchestras and performing premiers of works by contemporary composers.
Because of Leonard’ s Bernstein inspiration Mr. Wisniewski’s special area of interest is to develop and conduct modern concerts for children, working with group of top composers, moderators, and animation specialists.
Mr. Wisniewski is also very active working with the media, giving interviews, writing about music and culture, and advising various institutions on new strategies to promote classical music.
The most recent productions prepared for the Wroclaw Philharmonic Orchestra won a special award of the Polish Culture Ministerium for best educational project in Poland using a symphony orchestra.
Mr. Wisniewski is a member of the "Comission de Programm" of the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg and serves an Artistic Advisor for the Chamber Orchestra of Luxembourg. Dariusz holds a degree in Arts Management from the Warsaw School of Economics.
